June 2023 News

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

One of the best meetings of the year was Tuesday, May 16, when Scholarships were awarded to 8 Wimberley Seniors. Scholarships are one of the chief things that we Lions do with our profits from Market Days. It was great to celebrate with the Scholarship Winners and their families. It is one of the ways that the Wimberley Lions Club gives back to the community. At any time, the Lions are paying scholarships to 32 Wimberley youth because we give eight four-year scholarships each year. It should be noted the Lions have been giving scholarships for 40 years. The teacher, student and support person of the year for Danforth Junior High and Wimberley High School were recognized.

Five Wimberly youth have left for various places in Europe to participate in our Foreign Exchange Program. Each of the youth will spend one week with a host-family in the country the youth have chosen. Then the youth spend a second week at a Lions Camp which is attended by youth from all over the world.

On the home front, the JC Hyer Camp will be coming to Wimberley July 10th – 14th . This program is one in which European youth come to Texas for three weeks. One of these weeks is spent in Wimberley. There are 12 campers for whom we need to find host families during that week. We have 8 boys & 4 girls. If you are interested in hosting a youth from a foreign country, please let Vanessa Jones know. Hosting is a very rewarding experience and fun.

On Saturday, July 22, the Wimberley Lions will serve a meal to the campers and families of the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. This event is always a special occasion in which the Lions get to see how the Texas Lions Camp serves disabled youth from all across Texas. Every Wimberley Lion should attend this event at least once. Lion Sandra Gibson is the Coordinator of this event.
