About

Lions International

Lions are an international network of 1.36 million men and women in 208 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters. Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities. View LQ (Lions Quarterly Video Magazine) on the Lions News Network to see how Lions continue to make a difference every day and everywhere.

Wimberley Lions Club

"We Serve"

Since the 1960's our club has operated Wimberley Market Days on the first Saturday of each month which has now grown to nearly 500 booths, with anywhere from 7,000-10,000 visitors each month. We manage the market with volunteer labor and derive income from the booth rentals, parking, and food concessions. Each year we donate 100% of the profits from the market (after expenses) to local projects, organizations, scholarships and Lions' charities. In exchange, those to whom they donate provide the volunteer labor that is needed each month to operate the market. So it is truly a community effort; the definition of a small town working together.

Over the years Market Days funds have helped to build Habitat for Humanity homes, the local Community Center, Visitor Center, and community theatre. We have provided equipment to schools, built two parks and a nature trail, and sent over 80 local children to countries around the world in the Youth Exchange program. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment is that we have provided college scholarships to over 160 students, most of them four-year scholarships.

Three million dollars is a lot of money, even for a large organization. But in Wimberley, $3 million is the amount that has been raised and donated over the years by our small group, the Wimberley Lions Club.

Mission Statement
