WE SCREEN FOR ICE CREAM

One of the new and important projects that was started at the November Market Day was Lions Vision Screening. This is being done in the Conference Room right by the Main Pavilion. The screening went so well that it is going to become a permanent part of Market Day. So many children come to Market Day with their parents and it is a great idea to provide this vision service. Whenever you see children at Market Day, make sure that their parents know about the Screening and where it located. Plans are to provide a free ice cream for youth who get screened. A good way to tell parents is through our new motto - “We Screen for Ice Cream.”

MARKET DAY TIPS

All of you know how hard you worked and how busy we were. A very special THANK YOU to each of you. In November, 84 Lions worked and 90 community organization volunteers helped. When you see one of the community volunteers, tell them thanks and let them know how well we did and how much we appreciate them. And all of you 84 Lions who worked can brag to anyone you see - especially Lions who did not work. (Why weren’t you there?) Every Lions should be working at Market Day if at all possible. By all of us joining together, the Wimberley Lions will be able to make significant donations to our Wimberley students and community organizations.

$1,942 of the total $2,768 in tips for Texas Lions Camp came from credit card sales (which were almost $23,000). Note - if you are a cashier at MD, always ask for a tip for Texas Lions Camp for Disabled Kids. If the customer pays cash, ask them for a tip to be put in the Tip Jar. If they pay by credit card, you don’t have to ask for a tip because the card reader automatically asks about a tip. TELL THE CUSTOMER THE TIP GOES TO TEXAS LIONS CAMP FOR DISABLED CHILDREN - NOT TO YOU.

2023 COMMUNITY GRANTS

In case you missed it, Grants were given in September to 32 Wimberley organizations by the Lions Club. The total amount of the grants was over $100,000. All our hard work and service at Market Days enables us to give this much money to this many community organizations. Through your efforts the Lions make a great contribution to Wimberley.

WIMBERLEY APRIL 2024 SOLAR ECLIPSE

Building on the success of Lions Club sales of Solar Eclipse Glasses for the October solar eclipse, the Lions have begun planning for the April eclipse. Thousands of people will be coming to Wimberley for this event, and the Lions want to utilize our resources to take advantage of this once-in-a-generation astronomical wonder. If you would like to participate in the planning of our projects for the eclipse day, please get in touch with Mindy Curnutt or any officer of the Club.

MARKET DAY VOLUNTEER SCHEDULING

The Wimberley Lions Club is implementing a new volunteer scheduling application to streamline our volunteer signup process. We will soon be sending volunteer schedules by email and text messages. You can easily view, confirm or change your schedule each month with this new tool. And when you are unavailable or need to cancel your shift, use this tool to let us know.

We recognize that many of our volunteers support multiple organizations in the Wimberley Valley. In addition to Lions or LEOs, you can designate up to one additional organization each month to receive your volunteer hours. You can add a new organization or change your organization each month in your Market Day volunteer profile page.

Here is what we need you to do to help us get this right.

When you get notifications from Volunteer Local, follow the link to verify the information in your Market Day volunteer profile page, including the organization to which you would like to donate your volunteer hours. This new system will greatly increase our ability to staff Market Days in the best possible way.

Until the next newsletter….
