LIONS BRIEFS
AUGUST MEMBERSHIP MEETING
The next meeting of the Lions will be Tuesday, August 20, at 6pm at the Community Center. This should be a great meeting.
Our program will feature Wimberley High School students Leah and Maia Martin who will share their Italy experiences from our outbound Youth Exchange program this summer. We will also provide an update on this year's Wimberley High School Leo Club and exciting news about expanding our Leos Club program. The expansion will include a new community-based group for 12 to 18 year-olds not attending Wimberley High School or KAPS, with a special focus on the growing home school community.
POLO SHIRTS
Lions polo shirts will be on sale at the August meeting. Many Lions have inquired about purchasing the monogrammed blue polo-style shirts. Stephanie Gutierrez will manage orders at the meeting. Please bring a check or credit card for purchases. Samples will be available.
GRANTS FOR WIMBERLEY NON-PROFITS
The Grants Committee met this week to make decisions on 2024 grants to Wimberley Non-Profits. Over $100,000 was awarded in 2023, and our grant total this year is expected to exceed that amount. Grants will be presented in September at the Membership Meeting on September 17th.
SCHOLARSHIPS
It is Back to School Time. At the May Membership meeting, scholarships were presented to ten Wimberley High graduates of 2024. The presenting of ten scholarships each year is an increase - up from the last year’s eight per year. This means that, once fully implemented, 40 Wimberley youth will be receiving scholarships assistance from the Lions each year. This is your Market Day service helping the Wimberley community.
DUES
Members should have received the annual dues notice for the 2024-2025 Lions Club Year. If you have not paid your dues, please do so soon. The Board voted in June to decrease the amount of dues, so please get your payment in.

NOTE FROM PRESIDENT DOUG MCLEAN
Greetings Fellow Wimberley Lions!
As we navigate the dog days of summer, we're excited to continue our good work in Wimberley and beyond. Please mark your calendars for our next meeting on Tuesday, August 20th at 6pm at the Community Center.
Our evening program will feature Leah and Maia Martin who will share their experiences from our outbound Youth Exchange program. We will also provide an update on this year's Wimberley High School Leo Club and exciting news about expanding our Leos Club program. The expansion will include a new community-based group for 12 to 18 year-olds not attending Wimberley High School or KAPS, with a special focus on the growing homeschool community.
I strongly encourage all active Lions to attend our monthly membership meetings. These gatherings are a great opportunity to stay informed about what's happening in our club and contribute to developing new community programs.
Looking ahead, don't forget our annual Grants Award presentations on Tuesday, September 17th. This is one of our most anticipated meetings of the year, where we will share the proceeds from our efforts at Market Day - a true celebration of our impact!
Additionally, on October 15th the Hays County Sheriff's Department will give a special presentation on fentanyl awareness. This is an important event, so please invite your spouses, friends, and neighbors to join us and learn more about what's happening with Wimberley Lions 3.0.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Doug McLean
President, Wimberley Lions Club
