Lions Launch New Quarterley Forum

The Wimberley Lions Club launched the first meeting of its new quarterly public forum on September 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center, 14068 RR12.

The new series, free to attend and open to everyone, is designed to bring residents together to explore and discuss topics that matter most to the larger Wimberley community. The first topic of the series was “The Wimberley Flood: Progress Since 2015 and The Road Ahead.”

A panel of speakers reflected on lessons learned, examined how emergency services have evolved, reviewed Hays County’s plans for disaster preparedness and discussed what still needs to be done to protect residents and property from future natural disasters.

Panelists included Mike Jones, Director of Hays County Emergency Services, Rebecca Minnick, Mayor Pro Tem of Wimberley, Jeff Rasco, Mayor of Woodcreek, Ken Strange of the Wimberley EMS and Chris Robbins of the Wimberley Fire Department. Together panelists represented local emergency services, Hays County and those who have been directly involved in local recovery and preparedness efforts. Dr. Patrick Cox served as moderator and a representative of emergency services.

Lions provided guests a handout summarizing the historic 2015 flood that forever changed the town. Audience members had the opportunity to submit written questions and share their perspectives before the event.

“This series was about coming together as a community, not only to remember what happened but to plan for the future,” said Mindy Curnutt, President of the Wimberley Lions Club. “We wanted residents to leave each session with both useful information and a sense of shared purpose.”
